We aim to stimulate discussions between physicists, biologists
and mathematicians in order to strengthen the interdisciplinary community at
the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. We propose a new interdisciplinary axis entitled "Physics of living matter: experiments and theoretical models" ("Physique du vivant : expériences et modèles théoriques"). A major goal is to understand the physical basis of
diverse biological processes and to develop novel experimental and theoretical
approaches including optics, mechanics and microfluidics as well as physical
and mathematical models. Different
projects are already underway at these interfaces with the involvement of the
INLN, LPMC, LJAD, iBV, IPMC, LP2M etc.
laboratories.
We intend to organize a range of informal meetings to stimulate new and existing interdisciplinary projects and collaborations. These exchanges will include mini-symposia, working groups, seminars etc. in which conceptual and technical issues can be discussed in order to reinforce and further develop research at these interfaces. We have established a provisional steering committee comprised of members from the participating laboratories. The fédération W. Doeblin supports the development of these activities, in particular by financing projects at the interface with Biology and aiding with the organization of Bio-Phys-Math conferences, which have taken place in the fall of 2011 and 2013.
